Other posts on same issue are dismissed by TS as "solved." PC Tuneup gets hung on the "Startup & Shutdown" component of Maintenance "Fixing and Cleaning." My PC ran all night and remained hung. I canceled out; it showed Maintenance as incomplete. Trying it again breezes through preliminary Maintenance Fix/Clean components and gets hung predictably on Startup & Shutdown (presumably addressing its "6 problems found"). I'm posting this for other users whose posts have likewise been dismissed as "Solved." The program is broken, the issue's unsolved, and the customer's patience is exhausted. Looking elsewhere for the help that AVG Support and its PC Tuneup promises.
I understand your concern. If there are more files in junk files, it will take more time than expected to complete the scan
Before initiating a scan, you can uncheck the files/folders to avoid scanning with AVG TuneUp.
Please follow the steps below to uncheck the files/folders.
1. Open AVG TuneUp interface.
2. Click on automatic scan
3. Click on the arrow (>) on 'System Junk' and uncheck the files.
My PCTuneup is doing exactly the same thing and hung up in exactly the same part of the tuneup. This seems to be a problem with the upgrade and not the old version. I am not happy about trying all of the above steps when the bug may be in the new version itself.

The newest version of TuneUp (which installed itself automatically) still spends a half-hour or more in the "junk files removal" part and flags a number of items (program backups, etc.) I do not want to remove and then I have to manually uncheck those to keep from losing them. If it did not spend so much time trying to remove logs and program backups instead of just things like temporary files and caches and cookies and browser history, which are the things I really want to clear out, it would be a faster running program. I prefer the older version. I had more choice of what to remove and it ran faster.
