AVG - you are really upsetting your valued customers here. Why are you taking over our PCs without permission by installing AVG Secure Browser and making it the default for so many programmes? I want my browser left as I choose, I want my programmes to open as I choose and I do not want to be bombarded by constant pop-ups offering special offers.
Why have you not explained anywhere in this post that the simplest way to stop all this takeover is to uninstall your annoying browser!
I will not be renerwing my AVG subscription unless you respect your users more.
Infuriating. How do I fix this? Regarding the solution at the top, when I right-click on these HTML things I don't get a 'properties' option.
i have the same problem too and it is causing me problems, please tell me a fix before i remove avg
I installed AVG last week.AVG Secure Browser is NOT my default browser but all my PDF files were converted to AVG Html without permission and when I try to save anything as PDF I can only save as AVG Html. Therefore changing the default browser does not help. Of course I did not like the unapproved changes.
Thank you for being patient, Mert.
We request you to change the file format of the HTML to PDF and check the status.
Right click on a HTML file and select "Properties–>Change–>Select PDF".
Keep us posted.
Hello Lee,
We can certainly take a look into this. May I know if you have made any changes using AVG application? Please right click on the AVG html file > properties > change > select PDF and save the settings.
This morning, upon starting up my PC, I had the same experience: "*.pdf" changed to "AVG HTML".
I did not ask for this and I hate sneaky changes to the files in my data base . . .
I did the 'change extension" as suggested and everything is back to normal.
But again: I hate these changes; AVG should decently specify the suggested change and openly ask for permission to perform that change.
Sorry to say so, but this might change my (otherwise positive) attitude towards AVG.
I just had the same thing happen this morning after the February 1 update. I do not want them saved as html, I want them as pdf. How do I change them back?
I have the same situation this morning – booted my PC, had a notification from AVG saying it was adding a safe browser feature (which I did not seem to have the option to refuse and STILL cannot figure out how to find and turn off, not cool guys). Downloading a PDF from the internet resulted in an AVG HTML file instead. I've already followed the instructions from this thread to fix it but just want to say, this has soured me on AVG pretty severely – it's not okay to be changing file types or default programs without (a) clearer explanation, (b) explicit request to opt-in, and (c) the ability to opt OUT after opting in (or being forced to opt in!).
AVAST
Same situation for me (and many others I'm sure).
When saving a pdf file from the web, the dialogue box shows "avast HTML document" as the type of file to be saved. It then saves as a normal pdf (I changed the default extension- how dare you changing it without my consent!).
HOWEVER, this shouldn't be the case- I don't want "avast HTML document" in my dialogue box when saving a pdf! Tell your development team to roll back this outrageous invasion of my system!
Came back from holiday yesterday and new something was wrong when AVG updated. Computer was working overtime- same as everyone else, all my PDF files designation changed to AVG and opened with AVG viewer. Even logging on to this site to look for answers resulted in AVG viewer opening. AVG has basicaly taken over my computer. Cant remember checking any "check box" to allow this to happen. Only had a 158GB of PDF files to change back. Then I noticed my back up drive was the same. Thanks a lot AVG, just a few more hours work.
Let me explain clearly, AVG removed, this is expected behaviour. As you would put it.
I cannot believe after all of these complaints the bad behavior STILL exists - I had an update installed this weekend, and AVG changed not only the app that opens PDF files, it made itself the default browser on my PC! This is unacceptable and ridiculous, an invasion of my PC.
You have screwed up my day like so many others by monkeying with the file format of my downloads. I didn't pay for AVG and Acrobat DC for you to impose your formats on me. Pissed.
FIX THIS!!! My consumers are going to flip out if they can't find a PDF file in their downloads. Even when I type PDF into the file name while saving, it still comes up as the AVG file. There isn't even an HTML option in my dialogue when I save and it's still saving as HTML. I'll be deleting AVG and cancelling my service if this is not resolved immediately. I wasn't even using AVG browser when this occurred. Nor have I asked for AVG to be my default browser. AVG has overreached.
And yes, I CAN go in and change in the properties, but I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO when I'm working in Adobe programs. FIX!
Hello Hems,
We appreciate your efforts and take this as a valuable feedback and forward to our developers team. They will check and work on it. Thank you for letting us know about it.
Why? How do I change them back to PDF?

You're most welcome Lee,
AVG HTML is just an online PDF reader which will open the pfd files in browser a bit faster then adobe pdf reader (offline application). You can use any pdf reader to open you file.
Sharon, please note that when you make AVG Secure Browser as your default browser, it will become the default program for PDF/HTML and some other file formats that the browser supports. You should be able to confirm that this is the case by looking at the default app settings in Windows.
