Initially, please share us the screenshot of the message that you receive, while attempting to send emails, for better clarity.
Meanwhile, please disable 'Email shield' & let us know the outcome. (Open AVG program - Web & email tile - click on toggle bar beside Email shield).
I installed AVG on an older Mac (El Capitan) and suddenly I can't send email via Thunderbird, which was working just fine before. After looking on line for a solution I saw this post:

This would appear to be the same as the problem I am having but the posted solution is for Windows OS. Can I have a translation for Mac?
