Hey guys. Just a quick update, to ensure you that this is not a forgotten concern.
Our development team is still working on a backend resolution to this ongoing subscription disruption.
Your continued patience is appreciated, and I will write back upon any new development.

Hi Shawn,
It's now been a week since your last update on this issue - do you have any news for us?
I’ve received an email reply from AVG Customer Care telling me the problem has been fixed. I’ve tried rebooting my machine and entering the activation key but it doesn’t work; the error message says, “The product key you have entered is invalid. Your product key has expired.”
Some people have reported that the problem can be fixed by simply setting the clock back to before 1st Jan. If this is true, then doesn’t that mean that the cut-off date is hard-coded in Tuneup 2014, and the problem isn’t to do with license servers?
It's certainly not end-of-life for me; it continued to work perfectly right up until the moment AVG decided to remotely kill it.
I fully accept it's not going to be updated with new features. I fully accept that MS might release a Windows patch that clashes with it. But I’ll decide when it’s time to upgrade to the new version, not AVG.
It should be fairly obvious from the posts on this forum that AVG are annoying a lot of their customers with this money-grabbing policy.
Hello David, Paul and Nils. Thank you for your time and effort to communicate with AVG and I apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.
I understand you are experiencing a disruption with your AVG Tuneup license subscription and that a fix was initially presented, however you are still not able to utilize your product subscription.
It turns out, upon resolving the initial disrupting factor, there is yet another mitigating factor on our backend that is contributing to the cause of this ongoing disruption.
Regrettably, I don't yet have an ETA or a workaround solution to offer, but to be assured that our development team is working diligently to try and resolve this disruption. I will immediately write back upon any new development (hopefully sometime this week).
In the interim, your continued patience is appreciated. Regards, Shawn
Hello David,
TuneUp Utilities is an old product for which the support has ended since Dec 2016 and the product has reached EOL (End Of Life).
We'd request you to upgrade to AVG TuneUp. Visit https://support.avg.com/support_sales?l=en to contact our sales team to know about latest offers or a possible discount to buy AVG TuneUp.
Meanwhile, we have escalated the case to our Senior team. They are investigating the issue further. We will get back to you with a solution to the issue.
Thank you for understanding.
I have the exact same experience as David, and my thoughts are the same. We have no positive report from any user yet. Only reports telling the same thing as David did.
I made sure the two Windows processes for TuneUp Utilities are running (they are active!), but I can't get the program to work after rebooting and entering the activation key.
Processes: TuneUpUtilitiesService64.exe AND TuneUpUtilitiesApp64.exe
I've checked Windows Firewall and it's not blocking anything connected to AVG or TueUp Utilities 2014.
AVG needs to give us more and better instructions how to make TuneUp Utilities work again. My questions:
- Do I have to uninstall TUU 2014 and the reinstall it again?
- Or should I reinstall TUU 2014 on top of the one I have?
- If I uninstall and the reinstall, do I have to register the software in order to have a connection to AVG servers and make it work?
- Should I run the version 14.0.1000.353 OR an earlier one OR a later one?
- Do AVG have succesful reports from users of TUU 2014?
- Other things I'm missing?
The email-information and instructions from AVG doesn't seem to solve the problem.
TuneUp Utilities 2014 won't work. TuneUp Utilities 2013 works perfectly, as I have reported earlier. Yesterday I started an old computer with TuneUp Utilities 2014 for the first time in three years: Program doesn't work (no server contact for at least three years!). So I think AVG is wrong about servers being involved. My findings make me think the date limit of january 1, 2021 was planted in program code back in autumn 2013 or early 2014. At the same time AVG bought TuneUp Software from the earlier owner/ creator company.
Yeah AVG will not help with this issue. They want you to buy the new crappier product so they deactivated the old software keys.
Don't bother with this company now. Total fraudsters!
They will NOT reactivate the old keys under any circumstances. Thats what they told me.
Avoid this company!
Hello AVG Support,
I posted the message below in another thread but I’ve been asked to, “… contact us through individual post to locate your account and help you further.”, so here it is.
I bought a retail copy of TuneUp Utilities 2014 and it has worked perfectly for the past six years, and I expect it would continue to work perfectly if it hadn't been deliberately crippled by AVG.
I'm not asking for continued support, patches or new features; I just want the perpetual license that I have paid for to be reinstated.
