We regret for the inconvenience caused. We would request you to run AVG remover tool to completely remove AVG and then re install it.
Please click this link http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to download and run the AVG Remover tool.
1. Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
2. After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your computer.
3. After the restart, manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.
You will find recent support reports of "Restart getting hung up at phase 1" and "AVG Will Not Repair Nor Install". I am getting both simultaneously, Zen free installation. Error when uninstalling AVG Protection is just "General Error" while running under Safe Mode.
My laptop is a brick. Catch-22. Can't uninstall in normal mode to follow the links about what to do because I can only log into Safe mode with no internet and it cannot be uninstalled. I am currently going through your absurd process of creating a Repair Flashdrive, and maybe AVG Repair can help me out. As it stands, I think I'm heading for a complete system wipe and reinstall. Thank you for making me leap through fiery hoops of death dealing boredom.
I once installed AVG with confidence to over 50 clients. Your repair CD/Flash idea is absurd and far too complicated for regular users. I can no longer use your product, because I cannot install it with confidence that it can be easily uninstalled. It is, by my standards, a black hat Trojan that masquerades as reputable Anti-Virus software, but makes your computer completely useless.
You need to fix 2 things. First, a General Error message is unhelpful to everyone, even you. The Uninstall software should never give up. Second, Phase 1, if it encounters a corrupt AVG file must elegantly end without locking up the operating system. These are both violations of basic programming standards. Those won't help me, but maybe you can save a few customers without entirely destroying your rep.
