Soryy for the delay in reply, but ive been away with no internet connection. I'm afarid that your advice has not helped. Firstly I was not able to enter safe mode using your suggested method. However following a different method, when I got to safe mode I couldn't create a new user profile.Nor could I get the AVG rescue centre to run. I've run the avg removal tool again but it fails. Looking at my firewall settings, it still says AVG firewall is on despite the fact that I've tried to uninstall avg. I'm still without a system that looks like Windows 8 , ie no apps, no tiles etc
Hello Andy,
We recommend you to restart your computer in safe mode with networking(http://avgclick.me/rebootintosafemode) and create a new user profile from control panel and check if it works fine in your computer. You can also run AVG Rescue Center from from program folder or by running (Winkey+R) the "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG PC TuneUp\RescueCenter.exe" command in case that it's not available in the UI. Please let us know the status of this troubleshooting.
Thank you
Hello Andy,
We can understand that it must be upsetting. Since you have already tried to revert the changes and the things didn't work, we suggest you to remove all AVG programs completely using AVG Remover tool ( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ) and check if your PC works fine. If so, please get back to us and we will assist you further.
Thank you.
I recently had the same experience. My laptop is black to classic window interface, low brightness, and can't connect to internet.
Thanks again for your reply,
I've used the avg remover tool and restarted the computer but I dont think it's removed all the avg programs because i can still see them in the control panel , and although the avg icon has gone from the desktop there is still and AVG folder on the c drive. Using the remove tool has made no difference to the underlying issue that I can see no apps or tiles and am having to navigate my way round the computer by running explore.exe from the task manager.I was considering using my system backup to recover the previous state of my system but there are now no restore points although I have a back up on disc. In short AVG seems to have removed many features of my computer. I hope you can help.
Hello Andy,
I'm sorry to hear about this. In this case, I request you to install AVG PC Tuneup back on your computer, click skip scan in the welcome page, click on rescue center, and restore all the undo changes. Reboot your computer once and check if your computer is working as before.
Best regards,
Alok.
I recently installed AVG anti virus 30 day trial, Updater and Avg Tuneup 24 hr trial on my Windows 8.1 notebook. my system is now unrecognisable. No Apps or tiles appear or start up. Windows explorer no longer works so I've no access to my drives or folders or programmes like word and excell. I have uninstalled Avg Tuneup but the situation remains.
Hello Andy,
I am sorry to hear that the issue persists. It seems that the traces of AVG are still present. Please follow the below steps to completely uninstall AVG from your computer:
Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.
Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability)
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"
If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us

Thanks for your reply. Things are not improving. I've donloaded/ installed PC TuneUp. Itdoesn't seem to run although on the AVG dashboard it show 35% tuned up, but no welcome screen or any screeen that shows restore or undo changes. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Also the 30 day trial of the AVG anti virus has reverted to Basic, after it asked for a restart.
Anne,
We will check and help you with it. Let us know the name of AVG program you are using. Are you able to access your PC normally when AVG is uninstalled?

Hello Andy,
Thank you for the detailed information.
We have escalated to senior team to get further suggestion on this matter.
Please keep checking the post to know about the status.
Your patience is much appreciated.
Thankyou, I have followed your advice and successfully run the avg Clear Tool. In my control panel I no longer see AVG present, although there is.a folder called AVG on the C Drive and also one called AVG Remover. However my computer has not returned to its original state. I still have no Apps or Tiles and no restore points from which to try to recover a previous state.Should I now attempt the first suggestion from Alok Kumar that I reinstall AVG PC Tuneup and try to undo the changes using Rescue Centre, or do I have to accept that AVG has seriously aaltered my Windows 8 environment and make do with what I have?
