[clear uninstall + reinstall before the DNS-trick did not help, either.] "a bin file is missing" still pops up, the only working solution is the manual "update from directory".

The problem was solved with the help of AVG Technician using remote control…
1. AVG was totally uninstalled using the AVG total removal app
2. Computer was restarted and AVG was reinstalled
3. The AVG technician adjusted the DNS settings of the internet connection remotely
4. The "update"problem was solved.
Really to solve this problem with "A bin file missing" and save a lot of frustration and if you are able…contact an AVG technician and let them guide you throught the process to repair this problem with "A bin file missing

5) Click Send, fill in your email address, and then click Send again.

I guess you did not need to change the DNS IP, because this one has to be the IP of the DNS of the ISP I'm connecting through.
I guess you eddited the hosts file or something alike.
So, if you can please guide on the required DNS change I'll appreciate it.

Hello Yaniv. I would request you to follow the below mentioned instructions to make necessary changes for DNS:
1) Press Windowskey along with R key on your keyboard
2) Run command window will get opened up
3) In that type as "ncpa.cpl" without the quotes and press enter.
4) You will get another window opened with the list of internet connection on your computer
5) Please select the correct local area connection to which your PC is connected and right click on it and click properties.
6) You can find IPV4 protocol in that. Please right click on it and select properties.
7) You can find options to enter the DNS address values. Please enter these addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
8) Finally click on Apply and then Ok.
