This is the error after about 45 seconds of installing. No other anti virus programs were active, and the screen keeps appearing also after AVG Remover and AVG_ResetAccess.exe. No malware is active (checked that with Malwarebytes and Defender). Defender protection works. The installation files were the same that were used to install originally (succesfully).

I sent the logs over a week ago but haven't heard since. But I actually do not expect support on a free version but I can imagine that for AVG it's useful to know why things go wrong. So I searched further and this weekend I found what I believe caused the problem. It appears that AVG_Remover doesn't do it's job properly. I found a tip that removing all AVG directories under the 2 Windows program directories helped. And so it did for me. This time, installing AVG_Protection_Free_1606, which failed earlier, worked. It did install Zen which seems a unnecessary addition, but AVG Free worked as well. So I think AVG should review AVG_Remover.
A futher note: the only reason I use AVG Free is that I simply do not want the extra's available in paid versions. AVG should consider a Basic paid version: AVG Free but with full support & without blocking some settings. I would buy it.
I noticed that the real time protection was not working (the first circle is red) while the other parts of the program were "green". There's a Repair button (Herstellen in Dutch) which does start asking UAC permission but further doesn't do anything. I decided to de-install AVG Free. After that I ran
AVG_Remover which only finds AVG Web Tune up. After checking this, continue and a PC restart nothing changed (re-running AVG Remover keeps showing AVG Web Tune up). Also
AVG_ResetAccess.exe does not have any effect. I tried to different setup files, selected the base protection and after a minute of installing I get "Installatie is mislukt" (Installation failed); general error Error code is 0x0643 / 0xC0070643.
I finally switched on Windows Defender. This also seemed to fail at first so I suspected a common cause, but after a couple of actions connected to the specific Windows Defender problem, this now works. But I prefer AVG.
What else can I do to get the install working?
