Hello Lynn,
You've reached the AVG community support forum.
I'm sorry to know that you have lost your files due to AVG Cleaner. I understand that this must be inconvenient. Let me check with the possibilities to help.
I understand that this data maybe invaluable to you. However, it is strange that our app would be a cause of this. I would like to notify you that there are no functions that would delete photos without proper warning and without getting the user's consent to do so.
Did you access Quick clean function in AVG Cleaner application?
When you tap the Quick clean button on the dashboard, the Quick Clean screen lists all of the item types that are available to clean. These item types are separated into two categories:
Unneeded files: Data that AVG has carefully selected to ensure that it is truly dispensable, including thumbnails, APKs, residual files, and visible and hidden caches. All categories are selected by default for cleaning, except Thumbnails.
Files to review: Data that may or may not be valuable to you. We recommend reviewing items included in this category and selecting only those items that are dispensable. All items are unticked by default and will not be removed unless you manually select them for deletion.
For your kind information, you can't restore files that are deleted during a Quick Clean. This function was carefully designed to only remove data that is truly dispensable, such as system caches that can be easily replaced, or APK files that are already installed. It is not possible to restore items that are deleted during a Quick Clean, so we recommend using caution when deleting items under Files to review.
As for getting the photos back - at present, unfortunately, once files are removed using cleaner, it can't be retrieved. I'm afraid that we did not have any restore tool to recover your files., but I recommend checking Google Play Store for "restore deleted files" apps. I believe that one of these apps will be able to bring the deleted photos (or at least part of them) back. I also recommend checking Google Drive if you have enabled cloud storage.
Thank you for your understanding.
