Hello Jeff,
Thank you for your valued suggestion/feedback.
We'd like to inform you that we're currently in the process of developing a feature similar to "Sandbox", which will allow you to run apps, download files & visit websites in a secure virtual environment isolated from the rest of your computer.
The feature might be released in the future updates of the AVG Internet Security.
If you have further queries, please let us know.
I have run Google Chrome inside of Sandboxie for YEARS.
(For those who don't know what Sandboxie is/was: Sandboxie was a program
that created a "sandboxed" space on your hard drive, that gave the browser a
"virtual" environment in which to operate. All content that came in thru the
browser and downloaded and installed itself into your system, was contained
in the "virtual" environment, and every few weeks or so you could empty the
sandbox, and it would be a fresh clean system again.)
Most sites want to download and install stuff on the computer, and much of that stuff takes up residence and starts using up my computer resources and slowing my computer. Particularly video feed sources, which I use all the time, and of course Torrent downloads, which I do some of the time. And I simply cannot wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows every month or two just to keep it running fresh and fast.
Google Chrome makes constant updates and changes to their system, and from time to time Sandboxie had to make changes in their system to accommodate. There would occasionally be periods of a few days/weeks when I could not browse with Chrome while waiting for that. During those times I would only browse with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, both of which always have run fine in Sandboxie (and still do). But there are a few things Chrome just does better than Firefox, and of course IE is very old and archaic, and can't do a lot of stuff.
The company that made Sandboxie was purchased by someone else, who supported Sandboxie for a few months, but really did not want to, and cast it off earlier this year. The last "official" update of Sandboxie was 5.33.3
With Google Chrome's update from v84. to v86. it will no longer run inside of Sandboxie.
I installed AVG Secure Browser as a hopeful replacement for Chrome on my system; I completely trust AVG, and I've read that AVG Secure Browser has things like AdBlock already built-in. But sadly, it also does not run in Sandboxie.
I am not really looking for Sandboxie support, everything dies sooner or later, and I am afraid that is what's now happened for Sandboxie. But they can't be the ONLY people who made a really good sandboxing program. And it would make perfect sense if AVG Secure Browser had its own built-in sandbox, or if AVG made a stand-alone sandbox, that would allow the AVG Secure Browser to run in it properly.
Does AVG have or can recommend a true sandboxed environment?
We do not have an exact date for the next update or for the beta version, Jeff
Our developers are working on it.
You will be notified when there is a new update available.
Thank you for your response!
OK, that's excellent. How will I know when it comes out? Can I get on a beta list?
Thanks –
