I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused to you. I would request you to check if the MS Office application is added to blocked apps list in AVG Ransom ware protection.
Open AVG Internet Security.
Click on Hacker Attacks.
Click on Open under Ransom ware protection.
Select the Blocked apps tab.
Remove if there is an entry regarding the MS Excel program.

When saving an Excel spreadsheet a message stops the save and leaves a message saying there is a sharing violation.
