Security on a computer still running Vista

Hi John.
If you continue to use Windows Vista now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. The latest version of AVG Internet Security - Unlimited can not be installed on a PC running Windows Vista if you are planning to upgrade.

We strongly recommend to upgrade your OS to latest version of Windows to continue receiving new security updates, non-security hotfixes, or online technical content updates from Microsoft.

Hi.
My computer is still running Vista which is no longer supported by Microsoft or my Web Browser.
I have recently downloaded AVG Free and have a mind to upgrade this to give me more security cover.
My question is would any security system be worthwhile if my operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft or Firefox.
I use my computer for pretty low level stuff - Information, e mails and occasional internet shopping.
I am used to Vista and am quite happy with it. Am I being silly or should I just junk it and start again.
