Server Dropped Connection in Safari w/AVG Web Shield

Hello Jeff,

I understand that you are unable to websites from safari browser with AVG web shield enabled. Please follow the below steps and check if that fix the issue.

Firstly, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.

This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain "login" and category "Certificates". Search for "avg". You should find "AVG trusted CA". Select it and export it from the menu bar under "File" then "Export Items…". Save it somewhere accessible.

Next, the certificate needs to be added to Safari's certificate manager.

Since the latest version of AVG (18.2) some sites are failiing to  load in Safari when Web Shield is turned on.  I get an error "Server unexpectedly dropped the connection…" If I turn off Web Shield the same site will load on refresh. Forbes.com seems to be the site that consistantly has a problem, and all of it's direct page links.  Anyone else having this problem?  I have already cleared browser cache with no effect.

AVG Guru

Hi Jeff,

Sorry to hear that the issue still persists.

I appreciate your efforts in trying to fix the issue. I've sent you an email with further instructions to send us the diagnostics from your computer so that we can escalate the case to our Senior Team to analyze the AVG logs and provide you with a resolution for the issue. Please check your mailbox once.

Also, please provide me the screenshot of the error message along with your Mac OS version.

So if i followed your instructions correctly, i end up w/the same certificate in system and login when i'm done. Correct?  After completing the import I restarted Safari and navigated to the problem site I mentioned above, same error message.

Click 'Applications' > 'Utilities' > 'Keychain Access'

Under 'Keychains' on the left, select 'Login' then 'File' > 'Import Items…'

Navigate to the location of your saved certificate file and click 'Open'.

Enter the key pair's password and click 'OK'. Note: If prompted whether to trust certificates issued by your CA automatically, select the Always Trust option to trust and install your certificate.

The certificate will be installed and can be viewed by clicking Category > My Certificates in the Keychain Access utility.
