Severe memory leak in the AVG Driver

I'm still waiting for the memory buildup. I don't think its gradual anymore, it just happens at random at some point. Uptime is currently 18 days and no memory buildup in the drivers at all. So this could take quite some time to happen again at some point.

AVG VPN was reinstalled and the issue hasn't happened since, but I very much doubt its gone. I'll keep watching though, but it could take longer than a few weeks to find out if this issue happens again. This is just an update.

Hi Vas,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
From your description, we see that the tunnelling adapter (avgTap) consumes much memory.
Please share us the screenshot of the taskmanager that shows the CPU consumption of Secure VPN.
Meanwhile, we'd suggest you to try reinstalling AVG Secure VPN once to check if it helps.
However, you can be rest assured that AVG Secure VPN will not crash the system.
You might experience a slight slowdown in network speed when connected through Secure VPN.

For a long time now, I have been suffering a memory leak that is quite severe, and causes instability in my computer until my computer crashes. I recently had someone help me figure out the cause, and I installed several tools and developer kits into my laptop find the culprit. It appears to be AVG's VPN driver. avgTap.sys is using 10.46 GB of RAM and its increasing by about 0.3KB every few seconds.

I need this issue resolved as soon as possible. Its been causing my laptop to crash, and I've lost important data as a result of it. Progress to several of my projects was lost, although I was able to create something similar it still ruined some of my projects in the past. I only just today finally discovered what the cause was.

A friend of mine, suspects that if this driver is having issues, it may be related to the NDIS driver, Network Driver Interface Specification. He suspects that AVG's driver is holding data from the NDIS driver, however its only speculation. This is just additional information in order to help you guys diagnose it. I wanted to send this information into your regular support, however, that section appears to be disabled right now so I'll just have to post here publicly.

I have now confirmed that this is still a problem.

TAPN again, after 31 days of runtime.

This seems to appear to start building up and my system starts to become unstable when it does so. I'm not sure if the instability is caused by the driver memory leak, or if the instability is causing the driver memory leak. Its a very odd issue that isn't something we can realistically diagnose. I'll be rebooting today to install more Windows Updates, which means the leak will be reset, again. So it'll be another 30 days before this builds up again.

I meant your developer teams. :stuck_out_tongue: There's nothing I can do on my end anymore to diagnose this memory leak. I know its there, I know it happens, I don't know why it happens.

We're sorry to know that the issue still persists on your PC, Vas.
We've sent you an email that offered free additional support to investigate and resolve this issue.
Please check for the email and revert to us.
Thanks for your understanding in advance.

Hello Vas,

Thank you for updating the status. We request you to monitor the AVG programs after the reinstallation. In case if there is any issue, feel free to contact us at anytime.

Try contact brand motherboard support site with it, I guess it's an onboard nic integrated card then that is support by the motherboard.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Vas.
To investigate further on the issue, we have offered you with remote assistance through email. Please follow the steps and connect to our remote support, so that we can check and resolve the issue if it caused by AVG.
Thank you.
