Shortcut icons on desktop have changed to globes or "E"

Larry, You shouldn't have both AVG Anti-Virus & Internet Security installed on the same system. AVG Anti-Virus already features in the Internet Security (http://www.avg.com/ww-en/internet-security) [Scroll Down].

How do I restore desktop shortcut icons to their correct appearance?  Is Windows 8.1 or Explorer causing this problem?  All of my icons have changed to world globes or a piece of paper with the letter "E" on it.  I am running AVG Anti-Virus, Tune-Up and Internet Security.
