I have been using the free avg antivirus for over 3 years and all of a sudden yesterday I noticed it booted up when my system did which it has never done. I have always pulled it up only when I needed it and had it shut down in msconfig so it would not boot. So I called avg support which is handled by you guessed it out of the country phone support. I told them I did not appreciate the fact that AVG has basically taken away my right to keep it from booting up. And their response was well as long as you gave it permission, there's nothing that can be done. Well I figured out how to shut it down which is choosing to temporarily disable it and then go into task manager and shut it down there. When you go back to look at it in your bar it will still show the avg icon disabled for about 10-15 sec and then the icon will disappear. Honestly I do not know if any of it is left running but it no longer appears to be.
