Dear Delli,
Thank you for your message. I tried the other protocols and this seems to be only marginally better - the slowing down continues, only not by a factor of 1000 but 100. The reinstall didn't really help either - the connection is still about 80% or more slower (from 300 Mbps without VPN to between 10 and 60 MBps with VPN on).
What kind of slowing down should I expect if VPN works as it should? Thank you.
Best wishes,
Radek

Yes, I use the optimal location. My question is by how much slower is it reasonable - I hope not down to between 80 and 99%. I have now also tried with a mobile hotspot and another wifi network, and it's the same, it's always slower by at least 80, but usually 90 to 99%.
Thank you for writing us back, Radek.
Please try changing the network protocol on the AVSG Secure VPN and check.
You can refer to the below steps and check :
You can customize the VPN protocol settings via ☰ Menu ▸ Settings ▸ VPN protocols. The following options are available:
Automatic (recommended): Where possible, AVG Secure VPN connects using the OpenVPN protocol. If connection via OpenVPN fails, the application automatically switches to the Mimic protocol.
WireGuard beta: AVG Secure VPN always connects using WireGuard beta.
Mimic: AVG Secure VPN always connects using the Mimic protocol. This is useful in countries with restrictions on VPN use, where OpenVPN may be blocked.
OpenVPN: AVG Secure VPN always connects using the OpenVPN protocol.
You can try switching to the above option and check once.
If the issue still persists please repair AVG Secure VPN using the below article :
1. Ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your PC.
2. Right-click the Windows Start button and select Apps and Features from the menu that appears.
3. Ensure that Apps & features are selected in the left panel, then click AVG Secure VPN.
4. If prompted by the User Account Control dialog for permissions, click Yes.
5. When the AVG Setup wizard appears, click Repair.
6. Wait while setup repairs AVG Secure VPN on your PC.
7. When the repair is complete, click Done.
After doing the above steps please check on the issue and let us know the status.
Thank you.
