I certainly understand that you are facing scanning issue for your external HD using AVG program. As per our record you have purchased our AVG Antivirus program license. I would request you to try repair installation of AVG antivirus once and then try scanning your external HD.

Under "options" I am trying to scan a specific folder (an external HD).
Folder is selected from drop-down, but hitting "Scan now" doesn't seem to do anything.
No indication of an ongoing scan.
How do I intiate scan and insure it is progress?
