Hello Alok,
unfortunately it didn't work. I rebooted my computer in safe mode with networking and ran the AVG Clear tool, but it got stuck exactly like before in normal mode. Please advise what to do next!!

Thank you, Karthikeyan. Repairing "AVG Protection" fixed it right away.  I apprecaite your help!

I have tried all of the above.  After uninstalling and installing 3 times yesterday, and twice this AM…same result.  Tried all the "tools" listed, same result after restart, etc.  I read the article that lists all the conflict apps and confirmed in my control panel that none of them were there. I understand you guys are undergoing an upgrade; should I wait a few days and try all of this again?

Hello Davor,
I'm sorry to hear about this. I request you to open control panel in safe mode > program and features > select AVG and uninstall it. After that, you can go to C drive in safe mode > Program files (x86) and delete AVG folder. After that reboot your computer in normal mode and try to install AVG Free Antivirus.
Best regards,
Alok.

I don't have another antivirus running sudden with latest update, I am in passive mode. Repair doesn't work. I restored to an earlier date pre last update and all ok. As soon as I update it goes into passive mode and tells me that I also have free AVG 2013 and to uninstall it - I have paid for my version of AVG and do not have the free version installed also.

Hello Davor,
I'm sorry to hear about this. In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool. After the computer reboots, please follow the instruction (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-Free) to download/install AVG Free Antivirus.
Best regards,
Alok.
