Thank you, Karthikeyan. Repairing "AVG Protection" fixed it right away. I apprecaite your help!
still have this issue after reinstall will have to use s****y avast
Thanks to all of you for the suggestions to get AVG up and running in active mode alongside Malwarebytes, which I will never get rid of. Unfortunately, none of these suggestions has worked, so AVG will just remain in passive mode. Thankfully, Malwarebytes stands before the ports with an electronic AG-47 and has, so far, kept my computer virus/malware-free. I regret that AVG will not address this glitch in its software. It's the main reason I won't buy it to run alongside my paid MWB.
I don't have another antivirus running sudden with latest update, I am in passive mode. Repair doesn't work. I restored to an earlier date pre last update and all ok. As soon as I update it goes into passive mode and tells me that I also have free AVG 2013 and to uninstall it - I have paid for my version of AVG and do not have the free version installed also.
Hello, same problem here with AVG free edition. We have several licensed AVG business editions workstation in our office, and all them are ok. Then we have some personal PC with AVG free installed, and all of them are stuck in passive mode.
In this case, "AVG free" says that it is in passive mode because "AVG free" is installed !
Of course none of the usual recovery actions resolved anything ("fix it", "change/Repair install", removal tool, etc) . Please advice !

Hello Carol,
I understand the inconvenience. In AVG latest version, our developers have used strict formulas to avoid the conflicts. Please follow the article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-uninstall-AVG to run AVG remover tool. This tool will help you to uninstall the older AVG 2013 program. Restart your computer and check if the issue is fixed. If not, please take a screenshot [http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot] of the error message to check and assist further.
Hello Alok,
i followed the instuctions you've send me and AVG Clear tool didint work.
First I ran AVG Remover Tool and it did the job but then when I ran AVG Clear tool, it got stuck almost immediately after start (see picture). I've left it around two hours and nothing, it was still in the same place. Pease advise!!!
Keep getting passive error since the last upgrade. reportedly, it is due to having Malwarebyte installed. but I don't want to uninstall Malwarebytes cuz lots of time, AVG missed things that Malwarebyte blocks for me.
type 'services' on cortana, find Malwarebytes on the list, double click to open properties. change Automatic to DELAYED Automatic.
open Malwarebytes and change protection delay to about 105 sec.
since I made these changes, i seldom get Passive protection warning. still get them , but less often.
I'm running AVG Free Anti-Virus on Windows 7 64-bit. I got a pop-up window saying I've "been updated", and now AVG won't leave passive mode. It says there's "another anti-virus software running", but all that's running is Malwarebytes which I've always been able to run along with AVG, for many years now. Also wondering where in this latest version of AVG Free is the option to turn of auto-updating? Thank you for your help!
Hello N,
We apologize for the inconvenience. We suggest you to run AVG repair avgclick.me/RepairAVG and check if that fix the issue. If you still have any problem, please let us know and we will assist you further.
Thank you

Hello Davor,
I really appreciate your effort. In this case, I request you to reboot your computer in safe mode with networking and run the AVG Clear tool. After that, you can follow the previous post instruction to reinstall AVG Free Antivirus.
Best regards,
Alok.

That's too bad. Thank you for the information. I'd rather find another software that will work alongside Malwarebytes. Thanks!
It states: "Uninstall AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2015". I uninstalled it yesterday. There is no reference to it at all in the Control Panel. Only references "AVG Antivirus Free" (and yesterday's date). I have no other antivirus program installed.

Just realized my first reply never wasn't posted, but after repairing AVG Protection, it worked until restarting my computer, and now it doesn't work again. It's back to the way it was, not protected.
