You're welcome, Zlata.

Hi!
Have EXACTLY the same problem after today's update - other "AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2012" is running and due to this in passive mode. Uninstalled, removed everything - nothing helps. Any help is HIGHLY appreciated!!!

Hello Adrian,

I understand your concern. I have emailed you a link to get connected to our AVG advanced support. Please follow the same and the concerned team will check this for you.

(I'm sorry if this topic is elsewhere - i HAVE looked but nothing seems to be there that actually helps!)

Since this morning AVG Free (which i've used for years!) has started saying "AVG is now in passive mode" as another av is running.

If I click "fix now" it says the "other" AV prog is "AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2013" installed … and it won't let me turn off Passive Mode.

I have tried using the link to "uninstall AVG av free 2013" which doesn't fix the problem …  AND i've used the AVG remove tool … all several times, with numerous reboots. I'm now stuck as to what to do next!

Using Win 7 - AVG has been fine before now for (probably) 5yrs+++! Constructive help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! many thanks in advance.

Hello Vlad,
I'm sorry to hear about this, please share a screenshot which shows "AVG 2012 version is running and also the AVG passive mode" to assist you further. You can check the following link to see the instructions about taking the screenshot (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot). You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

FYI, I did NOT have avast - but "senior" AVG support (US based, given the time) "fixed" (resolved, circumnavigated, whatever) my issue and AVG Free is now OK again. V 17.7.3032

Vlad,
Thank you for providing me the screenshots.
I appreciate your efforts in trying to fix the issue. I've sent you an email with further instructions to send us the diagnostics from your computer so that we can escalate the case to our Senior Team to analyze the AVG logs and provide you with a resolution for the issue. Please check your mailbox once.

Thank you, Alan. Could it help if I don't have any folder from Avast? I unistalled Avast a few years ago. I deleted all folders where Avast was mentioned, and I deleted also some items in registry. Some of them can't be deleted. I used other antivirus trials, and they didn't find Avast. I ended with Free AVG and it worked until this June when it was joined with Avast, and now it is again. I've found  that there are some files from Avast again. Could it be that this new AVG uses and installs Avast files? I don't dare to delete anything from Avast now, if it is a part of AVG.
BTW, how long will XP be supported by AVG?

Thank you for answering my question, Akash Chanda. I try what you advise.

You're welcome, Zlata.

For anyone following this topic (maybe having the same issue) … "first line" support was unable to fix / had the same problems as me and say it's a known issue … ie not "me" / "my machine" specific … escelated up the chain to the next level of support.

Zlata, Win XP… Also have a look @ this AVG article (http://avgread.me/1Ewajhi).

We are happy to hear that your issue is resolved. We appreciate your time and co-operation.

Hello,
I have had the same problem since the last update received on 8th October 2017. It is the new version 17.7.3032, but I had a similar problem in June. It says now that "AVG is now in Passive Mode" and "Avast antivirus is running on your PC". I had Avast, but it was unistalled a few years ago. AVG is together with Avast. Maybe some remnants on my PC be still active? I have AVG Free and Window XP. I followed instructions on this AVG support and made several "repairs" and "restarts" and nothing changed. I refuse reinstall, because am not sure if it helps. In June I reinstalled, repaired and restarted several times and it took five days I got "Protection is ON".

Thank you, Alok! See below:
