Hello Tanya. Thank you for your patience and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.
To clarify, AVG and Avast are one and the same company, but operate as their own subsidiary, hence the reason for reference of servers associated to Avast.
What is happening is the fake website shield component is in conflict with Surfshark, as they share same technology of checking DNS servers, etc.
I suggest either disabling fake website shield component when using VPN, or to set a fake website shield exception for URL's you want to exclude, which can be done as follows:
1. Go to Menu -> Settings -> Components -> Webshield Customize -> Exceptions - URLs to exclude
2. Add without quotes "dns://.domain.net"
3. Restart PC and check if disruption continues
I trust this explanation and information help clarify your concern. Regards, Shawn
Hi Avinash thanks for your super speedy reply, I followed the instructions and that has lowered it to 2 servers one of which is 77.234.42.34mia01-008.ff.avast.com.AVAST Software s.r.o.Miami, United States which I presume is the AVG server, the other is the one I actually want to go through. Do you perhaps know if there is a way to get it to not pass through the avast server? and rather just go through surf shark.
Thank you so much for your help I really do appreciate it
Is there a way to use surf shark and AVG internet security simultaneously?
Uninstalling Internet Security fixes the issue.
I have tried making an exception for surf shark in AVG.
Running dnsleaktest without Internet Security installed I get 1 UK server and with Internet Security Installed I get 4 to 7 servers in Zurich Switzerland with google as the isp as well as 1 UK server.

You are most welcome, Tany.
The recent version of AVG will not have the options as per the order provided by Shawn.
We request you to open AVG Internet Security program window. Click on "Menu->Settings->Basic Protection-Web shield".
Check whether you could see an option to add exception as Shawn suggested.
Hi Shawn
Thank you so much, disabling the fake website shield did the trick
I tried the exclusion but don't seem to have the same progression path that you suggested I have Software Version 20.9.3152 (build 20.9.5758.607) UI version 1.0.583.
So I could go Menu -> Settings but there was no option for components.
There was an option after settings however for Exceptions -> Add exception With a text box to "Type a file path, folder path, or URL"
So I added the exceptions as you suggested using both the resolved dns names for primary and secondary dns (from the ip address) and the ip addresses directly this unfortunately did not work.
I am fine to just turn off the fake website shield, so it is quite up to you if you feel like a puzzle
Thanks again.
Regards
Tanya
