Suspicious dialog box

Had the same problem on my windows xp yesterday. My first scan ever stopped at 5% with the same popup.
I have never updated windows since I installed it with sp3.
After a couple of reboots with no effect, I canceled the popup many many times until eventually the scan ran through.
Today still working fine.
Have to say the problem was worrying.

Got this problem yesterday (16th December 2017) after updating AVG Free.  Ran AVG Clear and reinstalled Antivirus_Free_1817.  Scan stopped at 5% with same popup.  Eventually, after many internet searches and reboots, followed advice above to repeatedly cancel popup until scan ran through.  Now seems to be working ok.  Would be useful to know what caused the problem.

Hello Sam,
I'm sorry to hear about this. Please share a screenshot of the error/Suspicious dialog box to assist you further, and also I request you to check your operating system if you're using Windows XP Service pack 3 (right click on My computer icon on your desktop > select properties). Please be information that, we do not recommend our user to run two antivirus programs at the same time. Because a competing antivirus program that is monitoring and sending information about your system tends to look like a virus, so it will attempt to block and remove each other. If you have installed Avira and AVG both at the same time then please uninstall Avira to run your computer faster and have better protection with AVG.
Best regards,
Alok.

I still don't want anyone who I don't know logging onto my computer.  Is there another way to resolve this? Otherwise, I'll have to consider uninstalling AVG.

I recently installed AVG free antivirus . The first time I opened Chrome after the installation, a dialog box opened which stated ' An application is requiring access to a protected item.' Within the dialog box was an undecipherable string of text.  I had run a virus scan just before installation with Avira and and no viruses were found. This dialog box didn't appear when I had Avira installed.

Is this dialog box part of the AVG antivirus program?

Thank you for the screenshot. To further escalate this case we need few more information. Please let me know the version of AVG AntiVirus free installed in your computer.

Sam, you can chat with our remote technician when you are connected and watch them while accessing the PC. You can end the session at any time and ask any query during the remote session.
Collecting log files is actually quite easy but the creating the dump file for AVG UI process is little difficult, this is the reason we provided the remote offer.

Hello Sam,

I appreciate your patience in this matter.
It is necessary for us to collect and analyze the log files of AVG, hence an email instruction has been sent to get our additional support help.
If the email is not found in inbox, do check in spam and junk folders once.

Alok,

I have Windows XP Service Pack 3 and I uninstalled Avira before installing AVG. I tried to attach a .PNG file of the screen shot below, but when I click the Answer button, the image is not displayed in the post.

Dialog Box

Simon,
Pleased to hear that your AVG is working fine now. Mostly this issue occurs where windows belongs to Protected Storage:

Windows XP Pro x64
Default Description:
Provides protected storage for sensitive data, such as private keys, to prevent access by unauthorized services, processes, or users.

If you want to hide this windows, please follow:

1)  Open win+R, type  services.msc to open services.
2)  You need to disable lsass.exe, aka ProtectedStorage.
3)  To monitor the effect of a service, stop the running service by right clicking on it and select Stop
4)  Select manual mode, service will not start automatically.

We are here if you need further help. Thank you!
