Hello Adrian,
I can understand your concern. The System tray icon will be present at the bottom right corner of your computer. Please click on this link http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-use-Passive-Mode for the step by step images to disable AVG temporarily in your computer.
Hello Adrian,
I apologize for the inconvenience. You can disable AVG by turning off the Passive Mode (Open AVG Internet Security > menu > settings > Troubleshooting > Passive Mode > Turn off the AVG Passive mode). In other way, please right click on AVG icon in the system tray and turn off the protection button temporarily.
If you face any difficulties, please let me know.
I have re-installed AVG on my new computer and it now has a new AVG dashboard. I cannot find where I can temporarily disable AVG for 5 minutes. On the old dashboard this was under "options/advance settings". Can anyone advise where this is now to be found on the new dashboard. Thank you.
Meant to say, the first option (via troubleshooting) involves a shut down and restart, which is just too troublesome for a quick off/on for AVG. The other option seems much better.
Please advise me: what is the "system tray" and where is it ? What does the protection button look like ?
(I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.) I am afraid I am not very good technically.
