Hi Guys (Att. Balasubramanian, Avinash, Shankara, Ranjani),
Guys, a getle nag: The above history refers. This issue of blocking e-mail functioning has now moved from only Thunderbird now, to two other e-mail addresses of mine, as well. The only e-mail address that is not affected (i.e. that operates freely) is outlook.com. The rest are affected to various and inconsistent degrees.
I use Microsoft Outlook 2010 (outlook.com; Mweb; my business e-mail from e-Networks in South Africa, though I'm based in London, UK).
And, Thunderbird where I use my Gmail, Yahoo and hotmail accounts.)
So, given the above, the only e-mail address that is freely operational is outlook.com. The others are all compromised to various degrees, and, worryingly, inconsistently.
I am not sure whether it is the e-mail client (Outlook or Thunderbird) or, the e-mail address, or, a combo of client / e-mail address.
Clearly there's a recognised problem you have made me aware of, for which I'm grateful for your honestly, but, surely, by now, it should have been fixed? Or, is there another issue I'm not aware of?
I'd appreciate some rational perspective around this, and, if possible, would you be able to advise when AVG are planning to have this completely sorted out?
Your offer to assist, remotely, is deeply appreciated. However, I'm not comfortable with anyone that I am not totally familiar with, gaining access to my computer. So, this route will not work for me. Nothing personal, but, as a consultant, my computer is sacrosanct to me, thus, I am overly protective over it.
Ranjani, surely I'm not the only person with this latest / recent problem? And, consequently, surely AVG have, by now, understood the problem and are therefore able to supply a ready solution?
If my assumption is correct, would you kindly share this solution with me, please?
I'm able to receive mail into Thunderbird, plus, to allocate downloaded Inbox messages into various folders (I have an extensive folder/filing system). Yes, with this latest problem it can get a tad clunky and difficult, but, yes, I can do it, even if I need to close Thunderbird and re-open it to see the transferred messages into their allocated folders, from my Inbox.
No, I am not able to send e-mails FROM Thunderbird, unless I turn off AVG. When AVG is turned off, I can operate Thunderbird perfectly (& with good speed).
And, finally, yes, content in the review pane is not able to be seen, but, as mentioned earlier, sometimes (oddly!) content will come through. Very weird situation, this.
Anything further you need, please don't hesitate to ask. You can, should you wish, also arrange a Skype call or phone me on my mobile: +44 (0)78 8068 1615.
We are actually facing an conflict issue with MS outlook and Email shield from AVG. However, this has completely stopped the functionality of sending/receiving the emails.
In our case, you are not able to see the message content in a specific panel and it is happening in Thunderbird.
I would appreciate if you could try the below steps for me.
Then, Open AVG -> menu > Settings-> Troubleshooting -> uncheck "Enable AVG Self protection module". Check if you are able to send/receive emails and being able to see the message content.
Hello Dorian. We're here to help. It could be a conflict with email shield and latest update. Please uninstall and re install the email shield component and verify the status.
Open AVG, click Menu -> Settings -> Components -> Email shield. Click 'Uninstall' against the component, reboot your PC and re install it by navigating through same path.
Suddenly my AVG is "half"-preventing my Thunderbird e-mail client from working (Gmail Account) with the message being shown: "server imap.googlemail.com has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem."
If I disable AVG Anti-Virus, Thunderbird works perfectly! Never experienced this prior, so, I assume it's a result of the recent AVG software upgrade, or, the latest virus definitions?
Some guidance would be appreciated, please. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a known, current problem / issue of late?
(I have the latest, fully updated version of Thunderbird installed).
Hi Shankara, thanks for the update, and, honesty -- appreciated very much.
To assist you guys, firstly, I'm not experiencing any conflict problems with MS Outlook (both Outlook client (2010) and / or outlook.com e-mail), using Windows 7 or 10 (I have 2 Lenovo computers, one Acer Aspire One) or Android (Lenovo Yoga 3 Plus tablet, or, my Samsung Galaxy A5 phone).
ONLY Thunderbird is the issue, whether via Gmail, yahoo or anything else. Thunderbird, thus, seems to be the common demominator.
Then, to your request above to un-check "Enable AVG Self-Protection Module", unfortunately, this also does not make a difference.
But, here's the odd aspect to this: "Sometimes" the message content DOES show up, but, only occasionally, which is not affected by un-checking "Enable AVG Self-Protection..." or not. Makes no difference.
Weird.
So, something "lateral" / un-conventional seems to be causing this latest inability to see viewing pane content. Suggest you work with the dev's / programmers to ascertain exactly what they changed w.r.t. the latest software upgrade, and/or whether any recent virus definition could be that cause...
Over to you, Bud ... wishing you luck with this one! :-)

Firstly, thanks so much for your rapid reply -- much appreciated.
I've done exactly as you advised, above, to no avail -- the situation stays the same.
To provide you with more context, the main problem seems to be that, when I click on any message, AVG blocks off being able to see the message in the review pane.
I am still able to transfer messages, say, from the Inbox to any other folder for filing, etc. It's slower than normal and freezes occasionally, but, one "can" still manage do pretty much what one normally does, prior to this problem. One just is not able to see the content of a message. Quite weird.
If one disables AVG, however, one can do anything one likes, as per normal (i.e. what it was like prior to this recent issue). And, disabling AVG dramatically speeds up the process. It's clearly, therefore, AVG that (suddenly) has become a tad over-cautious and restricting with Thunderbird, whether Gmail, Yahoo mail, etc. It's clearly a Thunderbird issue. Using Microsoft Outlook is not a problem at all -- only Thunderbird.
So, yes, have un-installed / re-installed the e-mail shield, but, this has not sorted out the problem I'm experiencing.
Many kind thanks for your help thus far. Any further assistance would be appreciated.
Dorian, Just to make sure, you are able to send/receive email from Thunderbird. It is just the message content not getting displayed. Did I get that right?
Thank you for clarifying. We'd like to inform that this is identified as a bug in AVG email shield component and it will be fixed in the upcoming update.
