Trial scan ate my computer!

Hi,

AVG AntiVirus program will have performance scan included, if AVG TuneUp isn't installed in the computer.
This scan will only detect the performance issue. However, to resolve the performance issue, you have to install AVG TuneUp.
In AVG TuneUp scan, you need to click "Fix Now" option at the end of the scan to make any changes to the computer.
As you have ran the performance scan in AVG AntiVirus, the program shouldn't have made any changes to system settings.
However, to confirm the cause of the issue, please try restarting your computer in safe mode and uninstall AVG AntiVirus.

In other words, I'm on my own to fix this? Serves my right foot r thinking I could get anything free!  It will take me some time to track down the disks. I'm sure if my free trial is not cancelled I will automatically be subscribed and billed so, since my computer is not functioning thanks to AVG, please cancel the free trial. And be assured I won't be subscribing to ANYTHING from AVG and will be advising everyone I know to do likewise. Count me as a VERY unsatisfied customer.

I was offered a 7 day free trial last week of AVG antivirus so accepted. I have an older laptop still running Windows 7. I ran functions of the AVG trial to clean up caches, cookies, etc.  It was automatically running scans on my drives and I was checking the screen every 5 or 10 minutes.  I realized it was running a scan on my operating system but I did put want to cancel in case it massed something up. The last time I checked the screen it was on step 3 of 3. The next time I looked the screen was black but the cursor was showing.   Seemed weird but I left it assuming it was going to restart or something. After a couple of hours of it sitting there like that I did a hard shut down. When I tried to restart I got the message 'Windows did not shut down properly ( or something like that)' so I clicked on start in normal mode. It went to the same black screen. Then I tried restarting in Safe mode. Same black screen. Do you have any ideas how to get me back to Windows and my desktop?

As I said in my original post, starting the computer In safe mode resulted in the same black screen. I can't access ANYTHING on the computer!

We're sorry to know that, JC.
In this case, we suggest you to try windows repair using the operating system disk.

This isn't the experience we want you to have, JC.
Upon checking your account, we're unable to locate the trial subscription. You're correct about the automatic renewal process. If the trial subscription is enrolled to automatic renewal, then you'd receive the notification email which includes info on how to cancel the subscription, renewal date & amount to be charged.
If you re-consider, we can attempt to check the available options to fix the issue. As we're uncertain about the exact screen that you receive while booting, would you be so kind to share us the snapshot of it using your mobile/camera?
