Troublesesome AVG Secure VPN installation by AVG Remote Acces

Paul,
I can understand your frustration.
I would also like to inform you that the technology we use to connect to your computer is called LogMeIn Rescue®, providing a secure link between our skilled technicians and you, our customers. The service employs end-to-end, 256-bit SSL encryption – the same security level used and trusted by major banking institutions.

I suggest you to change the firewall network profile from "Public" to "Private" and check if that fixes the issue. To change this settings, please open the AVG Internet Security and click on Menu>Settings>Components>Firewall>Customize>Network profile.

Also, please Enable all the System Rules under Menu>Settings>Components>Firewall>Customize>Policies.

Balasubramanian,
Sorry it has taken so long to reply to you at AVG but I have been quite busy cleaning out my pc and factory ressetting it (yet again) in order to deal with my various security and installation problems.
I can't take a screenshot of that Trojan.Dropper (it ended up just being that one threat detected) on my IObit Malware Fighter Pro software, because I immediately set about cleaning and resetting my PC after it was safely quarantined!
Basically I was really, really fed up by then and just wanted a clean, safe redo… However I do remember it (the Trojan.Dropper) had "BHO" in the code line?
I have since safely and fairly easily (touch wood) got my pc back to its usual state and have reinstalled AVG Security without any hassle…however I have not reinstalled AVG secure VPN at the moment and am having second thoughts about it's use and neccessity since all my trouble started with my purchase and the attempt to install 'IT' in the first place.
Maybe after a week or so and my frustration levels have settled a bit?
I am grateful for your reply and will certainly take your firewall advice (thanks for the wireless printer tip) and if I discover a similiar threat on my pc I will remember to screencap it and send it to you.
Thanks for your assistance! ^^

Akash Chanda,
Unfortuntely or maybe fortunately, for me? I managed to fix the Windows Updates issue when I disconnected my LAN line and activated my wifi connection using Cisco 'Network Magic' program which detected my updates weren't working and switched them back on for me. This is what I hadn't been able to do through my Windows 7 start button (Control Panel) method.
Why this worked or if it was just lucky timing I don't know?  However I was suspicious of my computers behaviour and have downloaded IObit Malware Pro which is in the process of doing a full scan as I write this and has already detected a Trojan.Dropper on my factory reset computer. My AVG scan seemed fine, so what can I say?
The only internet connection I had after factory resetting my PC was to AVG and your remote access desktop help and the only reason I decided to factory reset was because I couldn't install my newly purchased AVG private VPN service and then couldn't reinstall AVG Security itself after I tried a clean uninstall/re-install to solve THAT problem.
You say that the remote access was very secure but I seem to have picked up a gremlin somewhere and the fact AVG did not detect this makes me even more worried and frankly distrustful of the AVG product itself now!
And yes, I know it's not good to run numerous security programs on my PC at once but I needed to cross check to be sure. I will be running numerous scans now and it will be taking quite some time, no doubt!
I have followed your advice on the AVG firewall rules in general, changing networks from 'public' to 'private' settings (do I need to change back now its working okay?) but I will not be enabling the "Allow Windows File and Printer sharing" or the "Allow remote desktop connections to this computer" Rule…for obvious reasons. Likewise I had to turn off the remote access settings in Windows itself. My horrible suspicion is that by allowing AVG remote access to my PC I have gained something that can go 'silent' and embed itself into my registry and survive a mere factory reset and might require a full wipe and reformat of my hard drive itself?
Time will tell, and frankly speaking I'm frazzled by the wasted hours of frustration this has caused me. Never had anything like this trouble with my previous AVG software and from the other comments here on the AVG VPN service it doesn't bode well for my future subscription…
However, I thank you kindly for your advice and assistance.

After spending hours and finally resorting to a full factory reset of my PC to try and install my AVG Security AND my newly purchased AVG Secure VPN I finally had to admit defeat and reluctantly allow an AVG technician remote access to my PC to fix and install it for me…which he did very quickly and efficiently and also did some performance boosting while he was at it.
So far so good, and then I find my stripped down performance enhanced PC can no longer connect to Windows Updates?
It just keeps telling me to restart my machine…which I have tried a number of times without success!
So I started rolling back the changes in my AVG PC Tune Up software using the Rescue Center but still no access to Windows updates?
I'm honestly fed up to my back teeth with this software right now!
AND I'm worried that by allowing AVG that remote access, I may have opened my PC up to more than I bargained for?
I'm honestly considering a secure wipe and reformatting of my hard drive at the moment and I've never even gotten to use the Secure VPN feature yet… Heck, I really wish I hadn't bought it now!
And the thing is I've never had anything like this trouble with all the previous AVG software I've purchased over the years?
Anyone know why I can't Windows Updates anymore?  I'm suspecting AVG is blocking Microsoft or I've got malware onboard?

Please be informed that AVG Internet Security will not interfere or block Windows updates. It could be possible that there are no new updates available. I would suggest you to disable AVG completely (Right click on AVG system tray icon to turn off the protection) and check if you could download Windows updates. This will help us to narrow down the issue is caused by AVG or not.

Hello Paul,

I am glad to know that you have fixed the issue and I really appreciate your efforts in this matter.
I assure you that the issue occurred is not due to AVG and it is necessary for us to check the threat that was detected  by IObit Malware Pro.
If you provide us with the screenshot of threat detected by IObit Malware Pro, it will be easy for us to analyze the situation and provide you with the solution.
To take a screenshot please follow the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/1aZxsAV and attach the image to this post.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
I recommend our customers to  keep AVG Firewall network type as "Private".
If you are using any wireless printer then it is recommended for you to enable "Windows File Sharing and Printer sharing" rules.
