"Tune up your PC" malwear pop up

  • Very few, if any, of your users find these offers useful.
  • Many, if not most, of your users find these offers confusing
These need to be removed from all versions of AVG AV/IS as soon as possible. I almost made the decision to purchase AVG for myself (two Androids, four PC's) and start recommending the paid version to some of my clients.

I pulled out of this decision, however, when I found out that these "legitimate advertising campaigns" and "temporary campaigns" also appear as frequently in the paid versions of this software.

Let me make something crystal clear here. NO advertising campaing is "legitimate" in a piece of paid software. If you are not making enough money from the sales of your products, either increase the price or trim away some of the fluff in your company (particularly here in the support department).

I've been cruising through the support forums today, and the number of times I've heard the same, scripted, cookie-cutter response from the "AVG Support Professionals" is absolutely staggering. If complete command of the CTRL+C and CTRL+V keys is all it takes to become a support tech at AVG, then sign me up! It sounds like the ultimate slacker job.

I have made the decision to move to Panda Internet Security, mainly because of the low system footprint and the distinct absence of "legitimate advertising campaigns" within their software.

Seriously, AVG, I am was a long-time user of your software. Now, it just leaves a horrible taste in my mouth that I can't get rid of quickly enough. Not that it matters too much to such a large company, but most of my eighty clients will be moving/moved to an antivirus solution that doesn't present in exactly the same way that spyware does.

Do any of you "security professionals" know how irritating it is for callout techs like me to try to explain to someone the difference between a fake AV popup and an AVG popup? To your average user, they are near indistinguishable. And that is a HUGE problem.

Anyway, I'm rambling now. Au revoir, AVG.

do not ever clink on that i do not it is nothing more the ads wanted to be on your computer

Avinash there is no X that will allow me to close out the window.  Also at one point it's the only thing showing on my PC.  If this is AVG there should be some branding on the pop-up which there is not.   This is a paid product and the last thing I would expect is adward popping up on my machine from AVG.  I'm looking for a fix not "So I request you to ignore the pop up" BS.

Hello William,

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for attaching the screenshot. It seems that it is "PCT offer – One time OTAP, lifecycle" but there is some issue with displaying that popup. I would request you to install the latest Internet explorer to fix the issue. Thank you.

I had the same problem in win 10.  If you select "taskview" you can close it.

So it's almost April 2016 and your temporary campaign is still on. This ad so incredibly disgusting and distracting. If I see it one more time, I'm off for good.

I AM SICK AND TIRED OF AVG CRAPWARE!
I have paid for AVG and I do NOT want this. I am sure that there are thousands like me.
Pop ups that you can not even delete are unacceptable in decent software.
I have been a paid up customer of AVG for at least 5 years but I will not renew when my new license comes up.
The AVG help line is also useless.
Do not waste my time asking for screen shots. You know that this happens as this is part of a deliberate AVG marketing strategy which seems designed to annoy customers. AVG management should wake up!

As of late yesterday (9/11), I have a white background window positiomed in the lower rt corner of my desktop.  It reads "Tune up your PC     Speed things up, regain diskspace, and fix problems in 3 easy steps."  And there is a text link that reads, "FREE 1-Time Fix".  There is no way to remove it. I did a cold re-boot and it reappeared. There are no graphics or color. I can provide a screen shot. This seems to be advertising the same type product that AVG has been promoting recently. Can this be removed by AVG scan, or can you advise me on how I can remove it?

Silvermane,
We do understand how difficult this is for you. We feel sorry to know that we are losing one of our valuable customer. Hello William & Wes.
Sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. I would like to inform you that it is a temporary campaign to install a try AVG PC Tuneup which helps your PC run smoother and faster. Unfortunately, it is not possible to stop them but I assure you they are temporary. So I request you to ignore the pop up. You should have a 'X' on the top right corner of that pop up to close it out. Please check it.
Please contact us back should you need any further assistance. Thank you.

Thank you.

The same thing started happening to me today as well.  It's slowing down my machine and enventually takes over so that all I can see is my background and it's pop up in the bottom right.  Need to know how to get rid of this.
