TuneUp when deleted prevents programs put to sleep from working

were is the fix I loaded the program this year with activation code
9QNHCT-DVD9L2-49C7FA and have this problem today!!!

Bump as I ran into this too and still haven't found an answer.

This exact same thing happend to me!  I installed AVG Tuneup for about a week, as soon as I uninstalled it, I got the same error when trying to open up any pdf, excel or word document. Very frustrating.  Has anybody found a solution.  I put my AVG Antivirus free on passive mode like Bala Suggested.  When PC restarted, I had the same problem.  Help!

I have the same issue. I didn't uninstall TuneUp. It just updated and now I cannot use the apps that were set to sleep (including the whole Microsoft Office 360 suite). Even waking up the programs doesn't work.

Honestly, I would like to have my money back for this. Your program is preventing me to access my programs and I paid for it...

Hello Lee,
We regret the inconvenience.
Usually, the changes you done by AVG PC Tuneup will get reverted when you uninstall it.
We would like to know how you narrow down this with AVG? Please try to repair or reinstall those programs and check the status.

I've been searching the database and can't find an answer to this.

I installed AVG TuneUp and told it to put some programs to sleep.  A few weeks later, since I wasn't using it, I deleted it. Now the programs I asked TuneUp to put to sleep won't work.  When I click on the program, I get "Windows cannot find <program>.  Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again."

I reinstalled AVG TuneUp and went to "Speed Up" and then to "Backup and Startup Programs", and with the exception of iTunes (which still doesn't work) none of the now-broken programs were there.

How can I get them back?  I tried uninstalling Microsoft Word and reinstalling it, and it still won't run.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you.

Lee, the solution that you see on https://superuser.com/a/590040 was a work around provided the issue occurred.
Later, our developers released a hot fix for the AVG TuneUp 20.1 version.
This fix should automatically resolve the issue that occurred earlier at the time of 20.1 version release.
If that doesn't resolve, then we will have to follow the work around.
The latest fix has been released to ensure that the sleeping programs will start automatically though there is some issue with AVG TuneUp.
We apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced with AVG.
Thank you.

Hi Vincenzo,

This isn't the experience we want you to have. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.
There was an issue with the recent release of AVG TuneUp (version 20.1), which has been fixed by our developers currently.
Please check if you're able to access the programs after reverting the changes made by AVG TuneUp (Open TuneUp - Rescue center (refresh icon at right pane) - Undo recent changes - restart computer).
If issue persists, please reinstall AVG TuneUp to fix the issue.
If you'd still like to cancel the subscription, write back to us in your own post, which will reveal the email address registered with us & we'll be able to check the product details.

It gets worse! AVG tuneup has just updated itself and now any app that was in sleep no longer works! I've investigated further and can see that crucial files (for example the .exe) has been deleted. I am having to virtually reinstall my laptop. You can imagine how long it takes not only to reinstall critical apps such as Outlook, but the numerous email accounts and thousands of emails that go with it.

rest assured I'll be deleting AVG from every device I own. it's just not worth the risk (and I'm not on the free versions).

So frustrated, I'm also having this problem. None of my Office programs are working anymore, Steam was killed too. I'm also not on the free version of AVG.

Yes I have the 2-year version and AVG updated itself overnight… now everything subject to Hibernation is broken. I spent several hours troubleshooting and trying to restore my programs, but several programs will need to be reinstalled. I'm forced to strip AVG to the minimum anti-virus and block it from auto-updating. My system still isn't back to normal, and after all the hassle today, I doubt that we'll be buying AVG again when my subscription is finished.

The same thing is happening to me, I bought a license for 2 months test of tuneup and during the maintenance I put several programs to sleep, days ago I noticed that some programs in a sleeping state, did not reactivate when I tried to start them, I tried to open avg tuneup to activate them manually but tuneap was loading, and I could not fix it until restarting my computer, the problem began to happen every day so I decided to uninstall tuneap, and now I can not run any of my programs that were in sleep mode and get the error "Windows cannot find '<path> <document> .exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. every time I try,
I already tried unpacking the programs and reinstalling them and it is not corrected.

Hello,
I had this problem and juste resolved it after hours of search... I tested AVG and unistalled it as my computer was already well optimized. But softwares selected to stay asleep can't work anymore with the famous message "Windows cannot find <program>.  Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." It can be solved simply, without reinstalling AVG.
Source for the answer, as said before : https://superuser.com/a/590040
But the answer is not really clear for beginners. Please consult the answer and here are the "missing" precisions :

- first :Type Regedit in the windows menu to execute the registery manager and locate the key listed in the answer (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options)

- Open it to see all sub-levels. If, in example, you have a problem with STEAM.EXE : locate it in the list. You will see a folder named "steam.exe"

- Open this folder, you will see a subfolder with an alphanumeric name (ie. 9733A_143DF).
Inside this folder, you see a key called "Debugger", if you double click on it, the key has an data like "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\AVG TuneUp\autoreactivator.exe". Now you are sur to be in the right place.

- Right click on the containing folder with an alphanumeric name (ie. 9733A_143DF) and select "delete"
(be careful : you must not delete the "steam.exe" forlder, but just its subfolder with an alphanumeric name

- You can do this for all apps that have such an alphanumeric subfolder, with a "debugger" key with a mention of AVG, like the one we juste deleted.

- It's all ok. You don't even need to restard your computer.

It would seem to be AVG TuneUp because the only thing that changed between my being able to access the programs and my not being able to access them is removing TuneUp.  Also, I can still access programs I didn't not ask AVG to put to sleep, like Microsoft Access, while I can't access the ones I asked to be put to sleep.

I have uninstalled Microsoft Word and reinstalled it, and I still cannot access the programs.

I am having the exact same problem. I used TuneUp to sleep several applications. Yesterday I removed AVG along with TuneUp. Now when I try to launch any of the sleeping applications (MS Office, Adobe, etc), I get an error message:

"Windows cannot find '<path><document>.pptx'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I get the error message when trying to open files from File Explorer, or the application shortcut, or from the application menu.

I re-installed TuneUp and put the applications to sleep again and then removed them from sleep. But that did not change anything.

Same things happened with me. AVG tuneup is a complete disaster, and i removed all avg products from my computer and will never use anything from avg again.

I was able to repair some sleeping programs by manually going to regisrty and deleting avg things that were not removed when i uninstalled it.

I have yet to figure out how to unlock ms word. i uninstalled office and reloaded it but the problem persists.
