Unable to access Com Port

HI,
Yesterday I installed AVG Ultimate with all the protections. I am running  application which required communication with an IP address through a computer COM port.  The application now flags and error message "cannot access com port access has ben denied".  The application was working before I installed AVG Ultimate.  Can anyone help?
