Unable to send emails from Thunderbird when Secure VPN on

Hi

Thanks for the advice on Thunderbird but changing the outgoing SMTP port to 465 or 587 does not work for my email provider (F2S) which only works with port 25.
So it looks like I have to turn off VPN whenever sending emails from Thunderbird.
Any further advice would be welcome.

Neil, I just happened to see you inquiry and this is a common problem I've run across from time to time using Nord VPN. You first choice is to just pause you VPN when using mailbox (I use Thunderbird).  Second choice is contact Nord tell ask them for a list compatible connections and generally one of them will work. Other wise, you just have to find a compatible one that works, by trial and error. When I do  get one it usually works for quite some time. Nord has yet fix this problem.  Hope this helps you.

I have just started using Secure VPN but am unable to send emails from Thunderbird (on Windows 10) when Secure VPN is on, so have to turn it off and then on again after sending emails.

Thunderbird error message is "An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting:  cm5nec <SMTP server name> not available."

Thunderbird can receive emails ok and mobile mail apps and web mail seem to be unaffected sending emails.

Other forums suggest using a different VPN location but I have no idea what locations might work with Thunderbird.

Is there any way Secure VPN can be configured to exclude Thunderbird (or any other Windows application) from tunnelling?
