Well - ran the removal tool and strangely, Tune Up is still there and working, but my anti-virus has disappeared.

I'm having the same issue.  What did you mean by "Did you use new installer…?"  The original post that I used said nothing about a new installer after removal, unless you mean did I go to AVG and download the latest version of PC Tuneup?  I did that and it said I should download updates which I did and which hangs.

Ah - don't think it was.  Have now used it and reinstalled and it says all is up to date, which should mean I don't see this problem any more.  Thanks Alan.

I seem to have the same problem as Beth (15th May) with this update and nothing has fixed it.  I have Windows 7.  The update fails in step 3 during the third green bar that reaches about 2/3rds of the way.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it is the same problem still. 

I tried the link to the diagnostic tool that Zbynek provided to Beth.  It took ages to compile the report but then got stuck on send for 2 hours, telling me to be patient as it was sending.  I don't believe I was meant to wait 2 hours.

Any idea how I can get around this.

Was this the PC Tune Up removal tool (http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/TuneUp_Remover.exe) that you used?.

Now I am really puzzled.  I logged into my AVG account and it sent me the licensse numbers for my computers' Premium Security and PC Tune Up, all valid until 2015, but when I search by license number (copied from AVG e-mail, it tells me they don't exist.
