Update install issues Free version

Hi Vennila
A little history. I've been using AVG Antivirus Free since 2009. Although I've had a few (very few) problems over the years they've always been resolved efficiently and effectively remotely by AVG Tech Support.
Last week, without any change to my PC settings, every attempt to update returned a failure due to an inability to connect to the AVG Update Server. I contacted AVG  and Alok remotely cleared out all existing AVG files and installed version 2016. The next 2 attempts to update were successful but the problem has now returned.
This morning I again contacted AVG Tech Support and was informed by Sreedeva that, as a user of the Free version, I was not entitled to receive support. He gave me a link to the User Forum, which provided no solution.
So I uninstalled AVG and downloaded a new version. This failed with the 0ex001f946 error code. Googling "0ex001f946" led me to a reply from another of your colleagues. Following his advice I ran AVG Remover and then deleted all AVG files on my C/: drive. Another attempted installed failed with the same error code.
I like, and want, the AVG product. I'm currently having to rely on Microsoft software.

1. Why have I been informed that you no longer offer support to users of the Free version?
2. How can I get Antivirus to fully install?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Miriam,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
We understand that you are experiencing issue with installing AVG Free.
Mostly this error is due to the previously installed AVG program or anyother Antivirus program installed on your system.
Upon reviving your description, we see that you have tried AVG remover tool. Is that right?
Is there any other 3rd party Antivirus program installed on your system? If so, please uninstall it and try to install AVG Program.
Thank you.
