Try to uninstall the AVG Free and reinstall it.
Let us know if the issue still persists.
UPDATED POST: I just installed an updated AVG Free version from the user interface. The control panel -> Programs section says it is version 20.3.31.20. After the installation, AVG wanted to restart the computer but the process would not start so I closed the UI and rebooted manually. I got the message "UI Failed to load. This is really embarrassing. Your protection is running, but the UI is having a really bad day." I exited the UI and rebooted again. Same problem. In addition, the error message says the the AVG protection is running. However, when I start Task Manager and look at Processes, the only thing running that is tied to AVG is 2 entries of AVGUI.exe so I'm not really seeing the protection "processes" running. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this. Thanks.
