Thank you for providing screenshot. It is noticed that you are using 2016 version of AVG Internet Security in your PC. So please try to uninstall it using AVG Remover tool and then reinstall the latest version.
To run AVG Remover tool, please follow the steps in this article http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 .
To reinstall AVG Free Antivirus, please use this link http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe .

I get a popup saying the updates wont install because of a corrupt installation. When I open AVG and update manually they seem to install OK. What gives?

I regret for the inconvenience caused. Please use the following link to download AVG Internet Security http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe . Once the installation gets completed, please open AVG->Menu->About->Subscription->Click on 'Enter License'->Fill the license number and click “ ENTER LICENSE”->Update will start automatically. Then AVG Internet Security will get activated in your PC.

I don't have the free version, I have a liscense. Does that make a difference?

Hence please go to AVG->Internet Security->Menu->About->Click on 'Subscription' option in right top corner of AVG window->Click on 'Enter License'->Fill the license number and click “ ENTER LICENSE”->Update will start automatically. Then AVG Internet Security will get activated in your PC.
