When you use AVG Secure VPN, you may experience a slower internet connection. This does not reduce the performance of the Internet Connection. AVG Secure VPN just encrypt the connection hence its reducing the Internet speed. If you have any clarification, please do let us know. Thank you.

Regarding the internet speed, you may experience a slower internet connection when using AVG Secure VPN. This is because a VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.
In this case, we'd request you to change the location/server of your AVG Secure VPN (preferably Johannesburg or one of the Torrenting servers) & check if the issue persists.
Also, please enable the "Mimic" protocol in your AVG Secure VPN by following the below steps:
Open AVG Secure VPN > Menu > Settings > Experimental > Select Mimic.

When I active the VPN my upload and downloads speeds are very compromised.
No VPN = 100meg Up and 100meg down
With the VPN  = 20meg up and 25meg down

How do I fix this as this is unacceptable
