Dear Richard
I've only just come across your question about a Firefox update relating back to June 2016, as a Firefox user myself for many years, the golden rule with Firefox updating a new version of the browser, is that they will NEVER open up a new tab taking you to a website claiming "Urgent Firefox update" ??? the proof is in the pudding !! the web address you got should send alarm bells ringing, as John quite rightly shown on the address, where's the Mozilla ??? Firefox is the name of their browser and is created by Mozilla.
With Firefox, Mozilla update new versions of their browsers quite regulary and they do this in a similar fashion to the way Windows update their operating systems, so therefore you will get a small window that will appear in the bottom right of your monitor saying: a new version of Firefox is availible, when this happens it means the new version has already been downloaded, but you will need to restart your browser to finish the installation process, also Mozilla keep you updated automatically.
If you see this dodgie website again, best thing to do here is do NOT click on it but close your browser and update your antivirus software also clean-up your computer if you have a pc tune-up programme installed, and then log off and shutdown your computer.
Reboot your computer in safe mode and start a full security scan, it may detect some infected files on a vunable add-on attached to your browser or possibly other infections elsewhere.
Hope this helps
Kind Regards

Hello Richard,
Thank you for providing us the screenshot.
We would like to inform you that the update message is from the Firefox web browser. You might be using the older version of Firefox browser that is the reason it is requesting you to update the browser. And it's not a threat.
Feel free to contact us for any further assistance. Thank you.
Aravind Gnanamurthy (AVG Technologies), That is an extrordinarily irresponsible suggestion - especially for security software company.
