uTorrent doesnt work with AVG VPN

Hello Cameron,

I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this problem. I’m sure we can figure this out, and we’ll work on finding a solution right away! Please check in the AVG Secure VPN to which server you have connected to because, in some locations, the use of utorrents is banned. If you have connected to that particular server then this website will be blocked. Please change it to a different server and check if that fix the issue.

Logging out of the VPN (temorarily or not) defeats the purpose of having a VPN does it not?

Hi. I have tried every server but whenever I connect to AVG VPN it stops my downloads. Can you help please?

I recently downloaded the free trial for AVG VPN, and now my utorrent won’t download anymore, tried to log out, change country (tried alot of it), logged back in and it did not work, now i followed a instruction to temporarily disable AVG proctection, bottom right (system tray), right click on AVG, turn off protection, AVG VPN is ON, then start downloading on utorrent, still not working, the only way it will work is when i turned off the VPN. Any advise or any help how to make this work?..

Hello Ravi,

You may experience a slower internet connection when using AVG Secure VPN. A VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.

Hi AVG,
Thanks for the response. Yes that worked.
Need to log out of AVG, change country and log back in.

I recently installed AVG Secure VPN.
Now trying to use uTorrent, the files just sit there and will not download.
If I turn off VPN then the files start to download in  uTorrent.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Ravi, thank you for the information.

Please disable AVG Protection on your computer temporarily and check if your download works fine with AVG Secure VPN "Turned on".

To disable AVG temporarily, please right click on the AVG icon present at the bottom right corner of your desktop(System Tray) and you can see a scroll bar to "Disable Protection". Please click on the same to disable AVG.

Ravi, is the issue resolved when AVG Secure VPN is turned off?

Hello MJ,

I am sorry to hear that you are facing issue with the downloads. Have you tried to turn off the Secure VPN and download the file?

Hello Paul.
Some torrents will detect and block traffic through VPN connections. This isn't an issue with AVG Secure VPN. Please open AVG Secure VPN, click 'Change location' and try one of the locations under P2P.

Thank you for the information.
In this case, it is necessary for us to analyze and perform troubleshooting.

I can understand the slightly slowing down part… but slowing it down to zero is something that is hard to digest. other VPN's do not report such drastic cut in internet speeds for P2P.

On disabling AVG protection, and VPN on, the d/l speed did decrease to two digits from 3, but did not go to zero.  But yes, it is definitely better than when AVG protection is on. However leaving AVG protection off would be an unwise thing to do i would suppose.

I just subscribed to AVG VPN and the first thing i noticed was the drop in my download torrent speed from 800kB/s to few kB/s and finally zero when i switch on the VPN. I tried various servers, i tried logging out and back into VPN, but net result is the same. web browsing dose not seem to be affected.
Is there a solution or should i get a refund ?
