Please note that virus definitions are updated regularly without notification in real-time by streaming updates. 

Enable streaming update

Then the larger virus definitions package is delivered and visible in the application every once in a while. 

You can also modify the auto-update value in the Geek area, as described here: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=AVG-Antivirus-Geek-Area

When will AVAST/AVG internet security change the virus database checking from every 4 hours to every hour like bitdefender.
