Virus Scan goes round in circles on 2TB usb drive

Scan is fine on internal 160GB drive but when scanning USB 2TB drive gets to 54% and  then goes in circles.  Anyone seen the same phenomena

The possibility for this to happen might be the interruption between the external USB drive & the computer.
However, we can try repairing the AVG program once to ensure that all services are running fine.
