Hi Avinish,
I have tried 6 other locations and am still experiencing a 400-500Mb/s drop in connection speed - any other ideas? I am directly comparing with the vpn off then on.
Hello Kurt.
We regret the inconvenience caused.
You may experience a slower internet connection when using AVG Secure VPN. This is because a VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.
However, the drop in speed should be minimal. Could you click 'Change location' and connect to a different VPN server at another location?
Sorry to hear that, Kurt.
Would you be kind enough to answer below questions to help us determine the root cause?
- On what computer/device operating system are you experiencing this disruption?
- Is your connection to the internet wireless or wired, and is there any difference in reduced bandwidth between one or the other?
- Is this a recent disruption you are experiencing, or has this been ongoing for some time?
- Are you experiencing the same disruption on another household computer/device that is connected to AVG Secure VPN?
- Are you able to connect to a different Internet Service Provider (ISP), and does the disruption continue?
As a further troubleshoot, on the device/computer you are experiencing a disruption, to temporarily disable your Firewall. Let me know how this turns out. I look forward to your clarifying response.

The VPN is currently reducing my download speeds dramatically from 5-600MB/s down to 120-130 MB/s on a fiberoptic network. Are there any settings or adjustments anywhere to be able to utilize my full access speeds? Having the same issue with upload speed as well.
