VPN issue with Google.com

Hello Brian,
Let us explain this clearly. Websites often attempt to identify the location of visitors using their IP address, a process called IP geolocation. IP geolocation uses a database that pairs IP address ranges and geographical information. The information in this database can be inaccurate for several reasons:

* AVG does its best to provide accurate information to the IP geolocation databases, but the database providers may take extra time to update the location.
* The website may be using an outdated version of the geolocation database.
* Some major websites (Google, for example) maintain their own databases based on user traffic from the IP address in the past.

I recently began using AVG's VPN and have encountered a rather odd problem on my MacBook, iPhone and iPad when using the same account. Quite often when I go to my web browser (Firefox) and type in google.com, it comes up in Czech. I have my location set to within the USA, and when I turn the VPN off, it resorts back to the US-based Google website.

Why is this happening? And how can I fix it?

It is a really frustrating/annoying problem, enough to dissuade me from purchasing the service once my trial is over.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cleared cache and cookies in Firefox, still same problem. As soon as I switch the VPN on, it gets tied into the Czech Google website, though I'm using a server in Seattle, WA, USA.

Same thing on Safari.

Time to disconnect for good and discontinue service. Or is there a solution to fix this?

You are most welcome, Brian.
This usually happens due to the web caches and cookies that are created by the sites that you visit on your browser.
Hence, we shall try deleting those from the browser and check the status.
We also request you to check it from another browser and inform the status here.

  • In certain locations, we rent dedicated servers to ensure AVG Secure VPN and the IP geolocation databases are updated by the server provider on AVG's behalf. Because AVG is a Czech company, these providers may indicate the location as Czech Republic. When this occurs, we work with the providers to update the information with the correct locations of our servers.

Thanks for your reply.

So it sounds like I'm out of luck. Nothing can be done? And the only way to avoid this happening is to discontinue using AVG's VPN?

Brian, I certainly understand your concerns. Please enable AVG Secure VPN and use an alternative web browser to verify if the issue is resolved or not.
