Let's check with it. You can try to uninstall https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Uninstall-AVG-Secure-VPN-from-Windows and reinstall https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Install-AVG-Secure-VPN AVG Secure VPN to check if that helps.
Please share the screenshot of error message if the issue persists.
Hi vpn saying "Initializing, please wait" but just hung here.
Checking my acct / subscriotions showed that my subscription to VPN had expired over 4 months ago. I did not know that. I re-subscribed and all is OK now. I don't recall AVG ever advising me that the subscription was due to end or had expired. I don't think I got a full year.
Peter, did you refer this https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=AVG-Create-screenshot&supportType=home article and tried to take the screenshot?
You can restart your computer and check the status with AVG Secure VPN program.
If the issue persists, do proceed with the reinstall of the program.

I had the same problem, uninstalled, reinstalled. Now AVG is asking me to either buy or have a free trail. But, I was already getting and paying for the service…I don't want to pay for it twice.
