I use a different VPN than the AVG Secure VPN. AVG tells me that my IP and location are exposed but of course it is wrong which is proof that my VPN is working as intended. You'd think that AVG, running within my machine, would have some way to determine that a VPN is running and stop bothering me with all these spurious trouble alerts!

Usually, AVG program provide pop up offers for other AVG programs, in order to improvise/personalize the existing app. An user can either proceed to purchase or ignore them, depending on their preference.
However, the paid program allows us to disable the banner (at bottom, in homepage). To do so : Open Internet Security - Menu - Settings - General - Personal privacy - Uncheck options below 'Offers' & ' Personalization'.
The notification that you receive during the smart scan can be ignored by clicking on 'Skip for now' at bottom right corner.
If you prefer to notify this to concerned team, you can submit a feedback from your end by : Opening AVG - Menu - About - Submit feedback.
Thank you for your understanding in advance!
I'm not that concerned about the Location because I have that turned off in the Windows Settings on this laptop. But I am concerned about the IP which AVG uses to decide I'm "exposed".
I ran the nslookup with my VPN on and off and I get different IPs … as one would expect. In the advanced issues of the scan AVG reports that my IP is exposed and it reports the one that I see with nslookup when the VPN is on. And every now and then out of the blue AVG likes to warn me that I'm exposed.
So here's the request - make AVG smart enough to know that a VPN is active and stop telling me that my IP is exposed.
Your feedback is highly appreciated, Glen.
From your message, it seems that you're concerned about the (campaign notifications) privacy risks found during smart scan or banner in AVG program's homepage (at bottom).
To ensure this, please share us the screenshot of that message.
Yes, you are correct. Both are an issue.
