VPN Slowing down internet speed by 80%

Hello, has there been any updates to this problem? I am having the same issue but far more significant slow down speeds. I pay for 1gig fiber and when I connect direct to my modem using a Cat6 connection and the VPN shut off, I get speeds of no less than 800megs both up and down with 8-11ms latency. When I leave everything the same but turn the VPN on, I get bumped down to no more than 70megs up and 15megs down with a latency of 30-46ms.Although I can see the frustration with Byron, it is far more frustrating to have your connection slow down so much that it takes Google.com approximately 15-20 seconds to come up… any suggestions here?

I have the same issue. I have contacted with the customer call center and the told me tha this is normal to take 30 seconds to load the page while using a vpn. (are you kiding me??) I dont think so! I tried a lot of vpn providers and I didnt have problem like this. AVG VPN IS A GARBAGE!!!

Hello Byron,

This is because VPN encrypts traffic and data before sending it to a server. Depending on the distance and capacity of the server, this process may cause a slightly slower, but safer, internet connection.
You can try using different location which might help.
Thank you.

AVG VPN is garbage, with it on takes 30 seconds to a minute for a page to load. If I turn it off takes 1 second. I've tried all the excuses and "fixes" but honestly for a subscription service its terrible. It even locks apps up like Steam, my Nvidia settings app, anything makes these programs take over a minute to start up, I have a great system and have repaired computers for a living so I am not computer stupid. Please fix this issue and stop giving all these poor people the run around

Hi

I have read all the various threads regarding this issue but nothing has worked. I thought it was a problem with my laptops Wifi antenna and bought and external wifi usb, but the problem persists. With the VPN not activated I get the speed I pay the ISP which is 55-60 mbps. The moment I connect the VPN the best I get is 5Mbps. How can the speed fall so drastically by over 80%. This is not acceptable as a paying customer and either this is fixed or I want a refund.

Regards

Byron

Slightly slower, how about 80% slower! I have also seen that same one liner you just sent me on every other answer you give to people's queries regarding Vpn slowing down the Internet speed. So please come up with something more unique to your clients needs and queries. Can it or can't the speed improve when using the Vpn? It's really a simple question.

Byron, this is the expected behavior and it applies for any VPN application.

Hi Chris,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please write back to us in your own post, which will reveal the email address registered with AVG to us.
Thank you for your understanding in advance!

I did change the server and it helped to a tolerable level. Although I understand what you are saying, as a long time customer of AVG, I would have expected a clearer explanaiton of this being "expected behavior" prior to making the purchase. To drop someones internet speed by 91% isn't something that should be considered normal. I love and respect the company you work for but I would have to agree with the previous poster that the answer being given really is unacceptable and an offer to have the VPN purchase refunded should probably accompany your reponse. The "there's not much I can do for you and it's not my problem" attitude your response conveys will certainly earn AVG a bad reputation in time… That is not something I believe you should be striving for.

Either way, I appreciate your explanation and your time. Have a great rest of the day.
