I downloaded the VPN Trial file. the trial expires September 12th. I have tried to cancel the resulting subscription, it states I can cancel as of April 2020. How do I opt out??

On checking your account, we could see that you have a multiple subscription for the AVG Secure VPN.
You have initially purchased the AVG Secure VPN on 4/30/18, which has been recently renewed on 4/15/19. It is valid till 2020.4.30.
You have also subscribed for AVG Secure VPN Multi-device (60-day Trial) which is going to expire on 2019.9.12.
We have cancelled the auto renewal for your subscription. Therefore, you won't be charged in the future after the expiration of the product.
