Web Shield/E mail Shield Blocking Problem

Have recently found that e mails are not coming through from my provider to Thunderbird, which I use to view/action mails.
I have found that if I disable in AVG Free the "Web Shield" & "E mail Shield" the messages then get delivered.
So have you made any changes in the areas I have stated?
Or what do I do to clear the problem?
