I don’t really remember, it must have been something like a year and a half ago, I was using a paid version of AVG anti-virus when you guys came with an update an I couldn’t log in anymore to my email accounts. Two people of your help desk have remotely sniffed into my computer but couldn’t find the problem. The issue was passed on to your experts but also them couldn’t fix it. I was forced to remove AVG from my computer.
Now I have a hacker using my email account. In November I had + 1.500 undelivered mails returned. This guy sends me weekly a threat mail blackmailing me. I have changed my password several times but he still keep sending me mails using my email account.
I was hoping to fix the problem installing AVG anti-virus but no luck. AVG doesn’t seem to have fixed the mail problem, witch was the reason I had to uninstall AVG in the first place. I couldn’t open Facebook, YouTube took ages even Photoshop crashed. MS defender can’t find anything scanning my PC and also AVG anti-virus finds nothing. Recording to AVG my PC is clean.
I had a phone call the other day of a person speaking English that my computer was hacked and wanted money. I understand you can figure out where I live using my IP address but how does the hacker knows the phone number of my landline ? Maybe the hacking does not happen from my PC but is situated in my provider.
If AVG does not change my default browser then, who does ?
To open this little AVG window in the bottom right corner of the taskbar I have to click on that little arrow. A little window pops up where to find the AVG icon. The little AVG window pops up behind that icon window so I cannot click the button to disable AVG.
I have temporarily disabled my email that is hacked and now use another one. That, of course, is extremely inconvenient. See what happens next.
So, you guys are the experts, how do I stop this hacker ?
We regret the inconvenience. Let's work together to fix it. Are you able to access your Internet , mail documents etc when AVG is disabled?
If you haven't tried this step yet, right click on AVG icon under system tray next to clock, click on toggle bar to turn off your Protection.
The auto renewal status has been already cancelled for all your active subscriptions so you will not be charged further.
We will not make other browsers as your default browser. Have you installed AVG Secure Browser? If so, it will get changed into your default browser.
Windows defender will get turned off automatically when third party security product is installed on your device. It will get enabled once AVG or other security products is uninstalled.
AVG has screwed up my computer totally, nothing worked anymore. No internet, no mail, my documents folder was blocked, I even couldn't work anymore with Photoshop. How about that ?
You have kindly forced me to install trail versions of Secure VPN, Driver updater and TuneUp. Thank God I didn’t pay for it at ones and tried the trail versions first. To make my computer operational again I had to uninstall everything. I have canceled all the subscription, I hope AVG will not screw up my bank account.
Why do you guys make Crome as my default browser ? That is none of your business. Keep your hands of the default browser of my chose.
What have you done to Windows defender ? Have you deleted it. Thanks, now I have to figure out how to get it back.
AVG has screwed up just about everything.
I was seriously pissed off. I’ve spend 3 hours installing AVG and all its gadgets and removing it again.

I have uninstalled Crome yesterday.
Yes I do install and uninstall software occasionally. Every now and then I find some interesting looking software, install it but most of the time uninstall it again. The hacking started in November, I can’t recall anymore what I have installed before that time.
I did a scan with MS defender and it found a virus. That was 4 months ago. After that my email account wasn’t used any more to send mails in my name but the hacker still uses this account to send me mails (as the pdf in previous reply)
To find your mail I had to reactivate the hacked mail account again. It is the one I use for AVG. After resetting Opera and changing my password I will wait to see if I still receive those mails, If so, I will contact your help desk as you explained in your mail.
Thank you kindly for offering me this free service.
This hacker has called me again today. Quite a coincident, the same day I reseted my browser.
Maybe he has lost contact with my computer now.
Let’s cross fingers …
Please share the screenshot of the email you received from the hacker.
The hacker might have received your email, when you entered your details in an unsecured website. Generally resetting your browsers and changing your email account password will fix the issue.
There is a chance that your information may be leaked from the other devices in which you access email.
If this is the only device you have, then we request you to reset your browsers and then change your email account password,
Are you trying to access email via browser or an email client?
Sorry to hear that the issue persists, Karel.
Please get connected with our technical team using the link attached in email. They will check and help you further.
The hacker has mailed me again today. Problem hasn’t been solved
Karel -
I think you may be jumping to some completely unwarranted and erroneous
conclusions about these malevolent contacts that you have been receiving.
First, emails such as the one you showed in the pdf file are well known
fraudulent attempts to extort money. Millions of them have been sent to
people all over the planet falsely claiming to have compromising info
about you. They also often falsely claim to have hacked your email
account and offer the "From:" address as evidence. But that too is
faked - anyone can put anything they want in that field of an email.
It's spoofed.
Read this:
“FINAL WARNING” email – have they really hacked your webcam?
Naked Security – Sophos News
As to phone calls claiming that your computer has been hacked or infected
and requesting money to clean it, that too is a well known and equally bogus
scam. It is probably unrelated to the email extortion attempts. Don't be too
quick to assume that they are related. These phone scammers use lists of
millions of publicly listed telephone numbers to auto-dial or robo-call
potential victims.
I've received several of them as have my friends. I had an elderly friend
who received such a phone call - and he never owned a computer in his life
and wouldn't know how to turn it on even if he had. These bogus phone calls
have been taking place literally for more than a decade. There have been
numerous articles online and in print describing the methods used.
You are most welcome!
If you need anything else, do not hesitate to let us know.
Thank you very much Wayne for this mail. You have told me stuff I really didn't know. I feel a lot more happy and relieved now. I was convinced I was hacked because he used my email address. I didn’t know that, people who know how to do it, can put anything in that field.
I do not have a webcam, never had.
So, in other words, I just have to delete those mails as I do with all the other commercial ones and stop worrying about it.
Thanks again Wayne
