What is Win32:Malware-gen?

(Url removed) Hi can you help me? Is this a false positive? How to know if it's false or not?

I'm running Chrome on Windows 7 with AVG.  EVERY page I load on ANY website gives me this warning - even this AVG support page:

"We've safely aborted connection on s3.amazonaws.com because it was infected with Other:Malware-gen [Tri]."

I am facing the same issue. User-added image

Hello, can someone please help me understand when some file is marked as Win32:Malware-gen?

Here is a VirusTotal report https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/b81bba8ea6ef110764171b776f4a4bd40eeff4ff6b49636c960caf76e3cd6f6f/detection of file I downloaded for my use. Can you tell why this has been marked as Win32:Malware-gen ?

Win32 Malware. gen is a so-called generic threat - a suspicious file fetched by an anti-virus scan that appears to be malicious but does not match any of the definitions of known malware threats contained in the anti-virus software's database. Therefore, an alert from an anti-malware program for a Win32 Malware.

Hello Silk.
Generic threats are files that appear suspicious to AVG but do not match any known threat. An alert from your anti-virus program warning you that it detected Win32 Malware.Gen on your computer, therefore, indicates that a 32-bit file on your Windows PC may be malicious.

Hi, we request you to refer this https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-clean-guidelines AVG guidelines which will help you to realize on how our product identifies a file or application as a threat.
From the virus total report that you have submitted here, it looks like the application is a valid threat and not a false positive.
