Whole Computer Scan

FYI: my freezes have been on that same file - 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\shell.dll' - several times… but not always. Until now, though, always at 28%.
I've tried RevoUninstall plus a thorough manual trawl to remove all further reference to AVG I could find. Then a new dl & install. Result? Better… now it doesn't freeze until 40-odd %!! As a long-time user & fan I'm sad to say, "Goodbye AVG!". But I've wasted enough of my life trying to sort this.

I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit on two identical laptops and I was having a similar problem (on only one of them): Doing a shell extension scan of several selected files, it would reach 14% and hang up on "C:\windows\SysWOW64\shell32.dll". I couldn't stop or pause the scan. Only thing was to reboot the computer. Finally, I used Revo Uninstaller and uninstalled all references to AVG that it found. Then redownloaded from the CNET link on AVG's page and reinstalled. Doesn't hang now. Maybe a very "thorough" uninstall is needed? Also, I made sure I selected to delete my preferences file and everything in the quarantine…

This issue should be fixed, please try update AVG and run scan again.

Scan reaches 28% then stops. Freezes… cannot 'Stop'; 'Pause' or shutdown. Report icon continues to revolve. AVG 2015 Free… two separate downloads on two separate Desktop PCs… Win 7 & Vista… networked to same router otherwise completely separate. Both hang at 28%. Tried uninstall & reinstall with new download, system restore, ccleaner (amongst other things!) to no avail. Do not have 'Quick Tune'.
